One to One Coaching
We seek to identify the deep seated reasons for how athletes behave under competitive pressure and why you do the things you do whether in competition or training.
One to one sessions are centred around you, your history, what is important to you in your sport, how you perceive yourself as a competitor, fears, future aspirations and the things you would like to be different. We work with you to define some clear steps to change and what needs to happen in order to achieve your goals.
No matter what level you participate in your sport not, there are often common issues that prevent us from being as successful as we might be. Whilst every coaching session is unique, a ‘typical’ coaching session may entail:
- Identifying your core values, negative beliefs or limiting decisions
- Removing negative and increasing positive self-talk
- Relaxation techniques
- Enhancing concentration
- Dealing with distractions
- Working with nerves and managing fears
- Making mistakes work for you
- Developing visualisation techniques
- Managing emotions and anxiety
- Goal setting and planning ahead for good performance
- Sports Hypnosis (where appropriate)
One to one coaching sessions do not replace the work of your coach or trainer. We work in parallel with your coach or trainer to help you remove any mental blocks that may prevent you from applying the skills they have developed for competition.
Sport Psychology Workshops & Seminars
We run a series of workshops and seminars for Sports Clubs, Training or Competition Centre's and Affiliated Bodies
Typically, our workshops will include a range of topics from three core areas; 'Understanding You', 'Learning the Tools' and 'Preparing for Competition'
These can be run as three separate workshops or we can tailor a workshop to include elements from all three.
Workshop 1.Understanding You
Understanding what makes each individual tick is important for coaches and for athletes if they are to optimise performance. This workshop focuses on building self-awareness of internal thinking and motivation styles so they can be managed and structured towards individual and team goals.
Workshop 2. Learning the Tools
This workshop provides a range of different practical tools for managing emotional states positively, building resilience and creating a high performance mind-set as part of competition preparation and athletic development. It also provides tools to help generate positive muscle memory in competition.
Workshop 3. Preparing for Competition
Here we look at preparation strategies and how to align them to suit an individual’s particular thinking and motivation style. This includes techniques for dealing with distractions and set-backs, handling pressure and ensuring training and warm up strategies are linked to individual or team goals.
We run regular 'From the Neck Up' clinics all around the country. These can be based at Sports Clubs or Training Venues where we offer a number of individual 'pay as you go' one to one coaching slots.
These days have been very popular to date and enable continuity for those athletes with specific issues and flexibility for those who do not require regular sessions.
If you are interested in holding a 'From the Neck Up' clinic at your location and have at least five people, please let us know.
Coach and Trainer Training
Coaches are often judged on their ability to produce results in others rather than on what they know, or what they are capable of themselves. Most successful training partnerships are based on the quality of the relationship and the ability of the coach to communicate in the language of the individual.
Our work enables trainers and coaches to operate within their students’ map of the world, getting individuals to think and process information differently and helping coaches to remove some of the psychological or emotional blocks that impede a player’s progress. We work with coaches and trainers to help them understand individual motivation patterns, learning styles and the impact of language on athletes’ ability to programme positive habits as automatic reactions, particularly when under pressure.
As coaches and trainers, we typically focus on technical expertise and skills to improve technical performance but less frequently do we provide them with sustainable mental strategies to cope with or remove fears, anxiety, stress and pressure that stop them from performing to the best of their ability.
We work with professional coaches at all levels to enhance their skills in influencing those behavioural aspects that have the greatest impact on performance. Our work with groups and individual coaches provides a comprehensive ‘toolkit’ for removing mental and emotional blocks that prevent lasting improvement in performance. If your reputation relies on your ability to deliver tangible results through your athletes, then this programme is for you.
‘It’s not what you know or what you can do, it’s how you get it across that makes the difference’
Competition Day Support
It is often very telling to notice how athletes behave differently in competition to training and we can often be found providing ‘on the day’ competition support to clubs, squads and individual athletes. This could be to provide support with individual or team preparation strategies, keeping athletes focused or in post-competition debriefs in order to help them ‘reboot’ prior to the next round.
